FIELD: computer engineering. SUBSTANCE: cylindrical information carriers 8 are connected either by belt 7 made of elastic material or by driving chain. Information carriers joined together in tape are stored in containers 18, are fed by tape-pulling mechanism composed of several pairs of gears 16,17 to at least one optico-electron information recording and playback unit 13. In working position carrier (or carriers) are registered by locating arm opposite to information recording-playback unit. Information carriers joined together in tape can also be stored in reels to which rotational drives 5,6 are connected. After information recording and playback tape-pulling mechanism changes information carrier by operator's instruction. EFFECT: increased volumetric density of information storage. 6 cl, 4 dwg
