FIELD: solid-state physic, in particular material for non-linear optics, quantum electronics, spectroscopy, etc.
SUBSTANCE: mercury thiogallate (HgGa2S4) single crystals with size of 10-30 mm are obtained by cooling of starting material sulfide melt with mercury sulfide excess in ampoule with backpressure, wherein sulfur excess is additionally introduced into melt. Initial mixture contains (mass %): mercury sulfide 51.827-52.042; gallium sulfide 47.662-47.061; sulfur 0.511-0.897. Cooling is carried out in directional manner: ampoule is vertically descended with rate of 2-30 mm/day.
EFFECT: optically homogeneous materials without enclosure of foreign phases, cords, and polysynthetic twinned crystals.
