FIELD: agriculture; plant breeding. SUBSTANCE: germinated seeds are exposed to a low temperature. Prior to the exposure, double vacuum- filtration of 0.005% solution of 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride or nitrotetrazolium blue is performed. After this low temperature (5-6 C) treatment for 3 h, activity of the enzymatic systems is determined by coloring of roots. The roots which are stained are of plants with winter type of development, and those without coloring are of spring-type plants. EFFECT: simpler method. 1 tbl
