FIELD: textile industry. SUBSTANCE: cocoons are steamed then unwound with acetic acid added to processing water at the steaming and/or unwinding stage. Concentration of acetic acid in water may be 0.001-1.500 wt. -% . Yield of raw silk rises by 23-35% depending on the kind of cocoons, breakages of silk thread in winding process diminishes by 0.9-1.2% , productivity of equipment increases by 6-10% , yield of raw silk, 1st grade, increases by 13-15% , shagginess drops by 0.1-0.4% , yield of cocoons with thread ends increases by 4.9-11.6% , complete winding increases by 6.2-19.55% . EFFECT: higher efficiency, 2 cl, 4 tbl
