FIELD: radio measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method is characterized in that when reflection factor phase of load under study varies from 0 to 360 deg. , analyzed load position X1 is recorded which corresponds to measuring signal phase minimum; minimum value of phase φ1 is measured, reflection factor phase of load under study is varied from 0 to 360 deg. , positions X2 and X3 of analyzed load are recorded, which correspond to maximum φ2 and minimum φ3 of measuring signal phase, values of φ2 and φ3 are measured, and unknown attenuation constant α is found from mathematical formula; measuring signal is shaped so that wave reflected from analyzed load makes up 0.8 to 0.9 of incident wave. Device has microwave oscillator, power meter, load under study, three valves, three incident-wave directional couplers, reflected-wave directional coupler, two variable attenuators, variable phase shifter, dual-channel frequency changer, and phase difference meter. EFFECT: improved accuracy in measuring attenuation constant of variable-phase load.
