SUBSTANCE: method involves determination of six phase extremes of measuring signal with modulo Гo reflectivity set across input and output of four-terminal device and with its phase varied between 0 and 540 deg. , measuring signal phase, reflectivity phase, and measuring-to- reference signal amplitude ratio being noted in each position while determining modules of phase differences between first and third, first and fourth, second and fifth, second and sixth measuring-signal phase extremes; unknown transmission gain of four-terminal device is calculated using mathematical equation, reflectivity modulo Гo being selected and measuring signal shaped so that when modulo Гo reflectivity is set at input of four-terminal device, echo signal in measuring signal makes up 0.7 to 0.8 of incident signal. Device has microwave oscillator, two gates, directional reflected-wave coupler, two incident-wave directional couplers, two variable attenuators, two voltmeters, impedance transformer, four-terminal device under test, variable-phase load, dual-channel frequency changer, phase-difference meter, adder.
