FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: side clearance between teeth of tested gear pair is set with consideration of relation between side clearance and angular position of gear wheels, and the relation is determined by diagram of conjugate error of forward and reverse run of gear pair. To realize the offered method, installed on spindles of angular tester are angular movement transducers and counter of current angular position connected to device for measurement of conjugate error and computing control unit to which device for setting the task and maintaining side clearance is connected.
