FIELD: agriculture; peat substratum production. SUBSTANCE: method includes steps of peat preparation; liming; forming; feeding elements introduction; drying. The novelty of the method is the substratum forming at reduced moisture as cylindrical blocks having a shell with a bearing frame comprising the non-degraded peat forming plant rests, and the use of dispersed upper peat having the degradation factor less than 15% for the shell and a mixture of this peat with the bottom peat at the mass ratio of 1:1 - for the inner layers. The substratum is formed in the form of blocks of two diameter sizes. The blocks of larger diameter are provided with an axial hole. The axial hole has the diameter corresponding to the diameter of the smaller blocks. The device of the invention is made in the form of an auger former which includes a body having charging bin 1 made of two sections; helical blade 2; hollow core 3; forming cap 5; drive 6; and detachable nozzle 7.
