FIELD: engine engineering. SUBSTANCE: nozzle 21 injects fuel in optically transparent tank 22 wherein a given counter-pressure is maintained automatically. When fuel particles intersect micro-measuring volume of a laser Doppler anemometer interference field is scattered. Adjusted three- dimensional filter separates out a part of total flux of radiation scattered by particles which is emitted from the micro-measuring volume immediately. Pulsations of optical radiation is converted to pulsations of electric current and amplified by photodetector 7. Alternative component of the photo-current which is separated out by a load resistor is amplified by high frequency wide spread amplifier 11 and enters spectrum analyzer 12. Magnitude of a Doppler component of the signal is determined using a frequency marker assigned by a high frequency signal generator. Velocities of particles are calculated by a known relationship and fields of particle velocities are built. Geometrical, structural and statistical parameters of fuel particles available in a jet are determined by subsequent calculations. EFFECT: simplified method and improved design. 3 cl, 2 dwg
