FIELD: measuring devices. SUBSTANCE: method involves conversion of shaft turn angle to two-phase system of harmonic signals, conversion of two-phase system of harmonic signals to cycle code of shaft turn angle, generation of first and second sequences of counting pulses based on this code. Number of pulses from first sequence during given time interval serves for determination of shaft rotation speed in lower range of speed interval. When measured speed exceeds given value, number of pulses from second sequence during given time interval is used. In addition rotation direction signal is generated. Device has angle gauge, angle-code transducer, code converter, two generators of counting pulses, tow switches, two pulse counters, AND gate, register, fixed speed code setter, digital comparator, control unit, XOR gate, JK-flip-flop, inverter.
