FIELD: production of heat-insulating materials. SUBSTANCE: method involves delivering fibrous filler (short-fiber waste of felt-and-fulling industry) and 60-70 wt.-% of water glass binder into a mixer, then delivering the fibrous mass into loosening-combing device from which said mass is delivered into receiving shaft of molding conveyor where free-falling impregnated mass is coated by atomization with remaining part of binder (30-40 wt. -% ). Total relation of fibrous filler and binder is 1:(1.1-1.2). After molding, the mass is heat-treated by forcing hot flue gases or air through a carpet layer. The produced heat-insulating material has a density of 75-125 kgf/cu m, a thermal conductivity of 0.040-0.053 W/m.K, and a sorption humidity of 16.5-16.7%. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 tbl
