AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLE TRANSFER CASE Russian patent published in 1994 - IPC

FIELD: wheeled vehicle transmissions; truck transfer cases; lubrication of bearings. SUBSTANCE: transfer case has differential with carrier and planet pinions, ring gear and sun gear and three shafts projecting from housing. Input shaft connected with ring gear is installed on bearings fitted in cover. Placed between these bearings is screw pump made in form of threaded disk with spiral groove on periphery. Lubricating oil is delivered to pump by gravity from trough in housing through crescent-shaped channel in cover. Space made opposite to part of outer threaded surface of disk communicates with end section of crescent-shaped channel. Space narrows in circumferential direction to facilitate entraining of lubricating oil by disk. Oil from pump is delivered to space between input shaft and first output shaft along groove on end face of disk and through hole in input shaft. Groove on disk can be radial or spiral. Oil from space gets into axial channel in output shaft. Oil from this channel passes through radial channels to antifriction bearings and thrust sliding bearings.
