FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: additional components are added to the material-prototype of known composition. Material has the composition as follows: 1 to 2 wt. per cent of graphite; 1 to 3 wt. per cent of magnesium; 2.5 to 10 wt. per cent of copper; 8 to 12 wt. per cent of titanium; the balance being chromium. The material may also has 8 to 20 wt. per cent of nickel. Tribological properties of the material proposed are higher than ones for known materials. The method may be used at any metal producing plant with pressing and thermal treatment equipment. EFFECT: increased wear resistance and decreased friction coefficient of sintered materials on the base of chromium at 20 to 500 C ambient temperature, as well as easier manufacturing process with lower sintering temperature, smaller sintering time, application of more safe inexpensive sintering medium. 2 cl, 1 tbl
