FIELD: production of scintillators. SUBSTANCE: method for selection of paraterphenyl for plastic scintillators includes preparation of saturated solution of paraterphenyl in benzene, toluene or dioxane and registration of solution light transmission value at wave length of 410, 420 or 470 nm, respectively. Transmissivity T is calculated for 1% solution. Attenuation factor is calculated by formula K = (1/d)(ln1/T), where d is length of optical path. Paraterphenyl lot is considered suitable for manufacture of monolithic blocks of plastic scintillators up to 3 m long if value K is within 0.0016-0.0028 cm-1. EFFECT: higher reliability in selection of paraterphenyl in manufacture of scintillators with high transmittance. 1 tbl
