FIELD: determination of iron in thin magnetic films; applicable in determination of iron in thin magnetic films of Fe-Co-Ni system. SUBSTANCE: method includes dissolving of film in hot nitric acid (1:1), taking sample for analysis. Added to sample solution is hydroxylamine hydrochloride to reduce Fe(III) to Fe(II), pH 6-8 is set up, added to mixture are 25-50- fold excess in mass of salicylfluorone and 250-500-fold excess of cetyl chloropyridine surfactant. In so doing, Fe(II) is combined into ionic associate. Solution is scanned photometrically at wave length of 590 nm, and content of iron is calculated by preliminarily constructed calibrating graph.
