FIELD: technology of electrochemical industry, electrolyzers. SUBSTANCE: diaphragm has polytetrafluoroethylene in the form of fibrillated fiber-felted material (specific surface is 10-500 m2/kg modified by γ-irradiation source, chrysotile asbestos fiber, copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene, and surface-active substance at the following ratio of components, wt.-%: irradiated polytetrafluoroethylene 50-80; copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene 7-20; surface-active substance 0.5-10, and chrysotile asbestos - the rest. Composition for making of polymeric-asbestos diaphragm has irradiated polytetrafluoroethylene indicated above and copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene with hexafluoropropylene. This composition has chrysolite asbestos and surface-active substance. To prepare composition fluoro-containing polymer is subjected for g-irradiation at the dose 50-100 kGr following by treatment of irradiated polymer in the mill of percussion-deflecting type up to preparing of fibers with length 1-3 mm, and then treated fluoro-containing polymer is mixed with other components. Method can be applied in electrolyzer for preparing of chlorine, alkali and hydrogen. EFFECT: decreased energy consumption, utilization of small quantity of chrysotile asbestos. 3 tbl
