FIELD: treating metal pipes. SUBSTANCE: method in which applied is a sleeve from polyethylene or from compounds based on the latter. The sleeve is subjected to radiative treatment followed by longitudinal stretching. On the application to the pipeline the sleeve is heated to 200 - 400 C the heating zone being moved at a velocity of 0.3-1.0 m/min. EFFECT: increased durability of piping. 1 tbl
