FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: essence of invention lies in simultaneous connection of two phases to single-phase network with termination of third phase in resistive element which is open after speed-up of motor. As a result of this with supply of single-phase voltage to incomplete star two windings form pulsating magnetic flux. Thanks to inductive coupling between windings on common stator emf Ek is induced in third phase-shifting winding lagging by quarter of period in time, current Ik lagging by angle Ek from emf ϕk flows. Magnetic flux фk coinciding by phase with current Ik interacts with working flux shifted by angle ϕr in two windings coupled to network, forms elliptic rotary magnetic field and generates relatively small starting moment as losses are not equal in value and phase shift relatively small. For lack of special phase shifting elements proposed method of starting with the use of phase-shifting winding is within reach and inexpensive.
