FIELD: building material production. SUBSTANCE: method of forming building bricks comprises steps of simultaneous compression action by a die from downwards and by a counter-die-from upwards on an article, being formed in a press mold, which is being drawn by a continuously rotating table through the counter-die and the die, contacting with a rail template, providing a predetermined pattern of forming and knocking out a ready article from the press mold; imparting to the article, being formed, a shear counter-action from upwards due to sliding of the article along a plane of the counter-die at specific pressure 5-20 MPa over 3-8 s. A press for forming building bricks has a feeding hopper, a table with press molds, mounted on a frame, a drive unit for continuous rotation of the table, an upper counter-die and lower dies in the form of rams, whose free ends are provided by rollers, resting upon a guide for moving the dies. The guide is in the form of a circular rail template with shaped portions for descending the lower dies at a process of charging the press mold and for lifting these dies at forming process and at knocking out articles from the press mold. The upper counter-die is in the form of a plate, fixed relative to the table with possibility of acting upon the brick, being formed, by shear counter-action, provided by sliding motion of the article, being formed, along the plane of the counter-die. The roller of the die may be built-up one, it may include several discs, each disc being freely mounted on a common axle. An inclination angle of the rail template in a forming position may be 4-12 degrees upon a relation of a length of an inclined portion to the same length part of the rail template.
