FIELD: test technology. SUBSTANCE: polarimeter has a light source and series arranged monochromatic filter, polarizer, continuously rotating quarter-wave plate and two analyzers. In this case a polarized light is split into two beams with the aid of semitransparent and opaque mirrors one of which passes through a cell with a lubricant and the other passes through the similar cell filled with air, cells being made in the form of plane-parallel plates. The device furthermore has a phase meter for determining a relative phase shift between the first light beam passed through orientation-ordered boundary layers of lubricant molecules and second beam which is a reference one after converting the beams into electric signals.
