FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: driving pulley 2 sets driven pulley 1 in rotation through belt 3. When belt 3 interacts with various parts of the pulley, which are coated with material having different friction coefficient, belt 3 slides variously. As the transmission ratio is a function of relative sliding of belt 3, changing of the relative sliding of the belt over the various parts of driven pulley 1 owing to changing friction coefficient results in changing the transmission ration, i.e., in changing speed of rotation of the driven pulley.
