FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: in blend containing granules of alloy Mg-Al coated with a shell of halogens of metals and ferrosilicons 5 to 15 % of calcium is additionally introduced into alloy Mg-Al at the following relation of blend constituents, mass percent: 5 to 50 granules of alloy Mg-Al-Ca (where 10 to 70% of Al, 5 to 15% of Ca, Mg - the rest), 0.1 TO 5.0 halogens of metals, and ferrosilicon - the rest. Working of pig iron with the above blend makes it possible to enhanced the mechanical properties of castings by 20 to 30%, reduce the amount of nonmetallic inclusions by 3 to 4 times and decrease the spoilage of castings by 4 to 5 times as far as macrodefects are concerned. EFFECT: enhanced quality and reduced spoilage of castings crystallized mainly at high rates of hardening. 1 tbl
