FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves discrimination of fundamental voltages and currents, application of fundamental voltages to inputs of simulators, measurement of currents at mentioned inputs, and their comparison with discriminated currents, connection of complex load to each simulator at point of suspected fault, adjustment of conductance and conductance of complex loads to values at which fundamental currents at simulator inputs and discriminated line currents coincide, determination of complex load angles, selection of load with zero angle, and assuming that point and character of fault correspond to point of connection of mentioned load and to its conductances.
