FIELD: electric power transmission lines. SUBSTANCE: method involves detection of damage moment, measuring voltage and current of main harmonic frequency of fault mode in the beginning of line, converting them to voltage and current of expected damage point and line end using model of power transmission line by means of detection of intrinsic and relative characteristics of transmission line with respect to two groups of terminals in the beginning of line and expected damage point, generation of four elementary models with corresponding intrinsic and relative characteristics, generation of partial models from different pairs of models, running measured voltage levels of fault mode through first elementary model, subtraction of output from currents of fault mode, passing these differences through second elementary model in order to generated output values of first partial model, passing measured voltage levels of fault mode through third elementary model, passing through fourth model output of first partial model, adding output of third and fourth elementary models with opposite signs in order to generate output of second partial model.
