Due to condition l1>l2, stepped striker 3 moves upwards under the action of pressure of expanding compressed air in front chamber 8, which enhances the efficiency of the air-operated hammer, l1 is the distance between the lower edge of the guide surface of the striker larger step in its lower position and the lower edge of the exhaust port; l2 is the distance between the upper edge of the guide surface of the striker end-piece in its lower position and the lower edge of the internal cylindrical surface of the tube valve in its upper position.
