FIELD: cleaning of chlorine dioxide from chlorine. SUBSTANCE: method involves removing chlorine from aqueous solutions of chlorine and chlorine dioxide by subjecting to selective electrolysis with electrode potential at pH of aqueous solution being up to 4; providing electrolytic reduction to chloride ions, with concentration of chlorine dioxide remaining the same as that of treated solution. Chlorine is directly reduced at pH values of up to 2 by means of cathode with low overvoltage and indirectly at pH values of up to 4 by means of cathode with high overvoltage. EFFECT: increased efficiency in cleaning aqueous solutions of chlorine dioxide from chlorine. 1 tbl
