FIELD: industrial inorganic syntheses. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of chlorine dioxide from chloric acid and alkali metal chlorates. Chlorine dioxide useful as bleaching agent is produced without sodium sulfate-containing waste by way of reducing chloric acid in an aqueous medium in reaction zone with total normality of acid 7 N and in real absence of sulfate cation and in presence of bed charge of sodium chlorate first added and then withdrawn from reaction medium. Starting chloric acid is produced electrolytically from aqueous solution of sodium chlorate bed charge and sodium chlorate added to replenish consumed chlorate. Reduction of chloric acid into chlorine dioxide may be performed using methanol or electrolytically. EFFECT: eliminated process waste. 36 cl, 2 dwg , 1 tbl
