FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: heated metal insert is put into the not light-tight mould of the horizontal continuous casting machine whose technological axis is sloped towards the horizon at the angle of 7°-9°- form the side opposite to the ingot extraction. The molten metal is fed to the mould from above, in the shape of the of a jet, through the opening in the upper wall of the mould. The insert is supplied to the opening. The slots between the insert and the lateral and lower walls of the mould are thickened with the mould coating. The mould has a tilting mechanism. The insert is put into the mould by a device independent of the tilting mechanism and is shifted with the speed of its length change by means of melting or fusing. The insert can be made of separated parts. Each part can be operated independently. The level of the molten metal in the mould cavity is kept constant. A layer of the heat-shielding synthetic slag is applied on its surface. EFFECT: enhanced quality of the horizontal continuous casting. 3 cl, 1 dwg
