FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method for making vanadium-containing rail steel includes melting in steel-making unit of intermediate product which is preliminarily deoxidized with manganese-containing alloys, recarburized and microalloyed with vanadium of liquid natural alloyed vanadium pig iron in which aluminum additive is preliminarily introduced, and finally deoxidized in casting ladle. Natural alloyed vanadium pig iron is poured into intermediate product with carbon content of 0.48-0.65% Introduced preliminarily into natural alloyed vanadium pig iron is additional additive in form of vanadium slag added in course of pouring pig iron into vessel designed for transferring pig iron to steel casting unit in the amount of 1.0-13.3% of mass of natural alloyed vanadium pig iron with aluminium-to-vanadium slag ratio of 1:(2-6). Prior to pouring into steel casting unit, natural alloyed vanadium pig iron with introduced additives is held for 4-15 min.
