FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: position of two color-contrast boundaries appearing both in reflection from analyzed medium and from boundary of two parts of prism with refractive index n1 and n2 is recorded simultaneously; here, nanal<n2<n1, where nanal is refractive index of analyzed medium; two parts of prism are joined so that their boundary makes obtuse angle relative to base plane of first prism and refractive index of analyzed medium nanal is found from equation nanal= n1·sin(arcSin n2/n1+γ), where γ is difference in angular position of color-contrast boundaries.
