FIELD: photometry. SUBSTANCE: method includes the feed of crystal raw materials in pieces, the piece stabilization in two mutually perpendicular planes and its simultaneous orientation by the side receiving the maximum quantity of the radiant energy towards emitters, the piece irradiation along the motion by several rays in succession, the intensity registration of the irradiation which has passed through the piece, the strengthening of the received signal, the comparison with the required level, the counting of pulses which have not surpassed the required level, making up the decision of the piece removal and the piece removal. The device has the unit for piece feeding and the stabilizer-orientation instrument made in the form of a chute with the flute radius from 1.2 to 5 and the length from 3 to 15 maximum diameters of sorted pieces. The stabilizer-orientation instrument is mounted at the angle which is larger than that of the friction of the sorted material against the chute. Under the orientation instrument, on the descent of the sorted material, the radiation detector connected with an amplifier is mounted. The amplifier output is connected up to the comparator linked with the counter of pulses which have not passed the comparison threshold. The counter output is turned on the unit input of the control exercised by the actuating mechanisms. The radiation sources oriented to the radiation detector and connected with the decoder outputs are set up over the stabilizer-orientation instrument along its central axis. The decoder input is connected up to the pulse counter whose input is turned on the output of the square-wave generator. The generator output is connected with the univibrator whose output is connected up to the input of the decoder strobing with the pulse counter.
