FIELD: photoelectron multiplier tubes for spectrometric and radiation-monitoring instruments. SUBSTANCE: method involves preliminary processing of emitters out of multiplier tube by antimony, mounting emitters in cesium vapors, evacuating cesium recess and generating photo cathode. Emitters are made from aluminum-magnum alloy. Preliminary activation of emitters, which are mounted in separate bulb, includes their heating under temperature 380± 20 C for 1.5-2 hours under pressure less than 1 101•10-4 Pa, their cooling and subsequent heating under said pressure in cesium vapors under temperature 240±10 C for 15 minutes. Then bulb with emitters is heated up to 420+20 C. Then emitters are oxidized by oxygen under pressure 13 Pa in two steps, which duration is 15 minutes for each step and which are separated by 15 minutes. Then bulb is cooled down to room temperature, emitters are evacuated from bulb and first seven-eight emitters are covered by antimony layer under pressure which is not greater than 7•10-3 Pa. When all emitters are mounted in photoelectron multiplier tube, said tube is heated under temperature, which is not greater than 250 C and pressure (1.3-2.6) 10(1,3-2,6)•10-4 Pa during 2-2.5 hours. Final activation of emitters is performed in cesium vapors under same temperature until leakage current exceeds 1 mA. EFFECT: increased functional capabilities.
