FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy; production of titanium or powders based on titanium. SUBSTANCE: method for production of titanium powder includes magnesium thermal reduction of titanium tetrachloride; preliminary purification of reaction mass by vacuum separation up to the content of magnesium chloride within 5-12%, removal of reaction mass from the apparatus, grinding it to particles sizing 0-12 mm and subjection to subsequent final purification by leaching or vacuum separation. In final purification by vacuum separation, after grinding, the reaction mass is preliminarily dried in vacuum with stepped raising of temperature from 20 to 250 C, then, vacuum separation is carried out, apparatus is cooled and sintered powders are finally ground to the required.
