FIELD: mechanical engineering; electric arc welding; thermal cycling of weld joint. SUBSTANCE: device has welding arc supply source and control unit with magnetic field sensor, time interval ratio calculation channel, weld step length optimization channel and magnetic field sensor displacement mechanism. Control unit provides preliminary amplification of signals from magnetic field sensor, calculation of interval of straight and reverse phase transfers of material, cooling interval and relationship of intervals. Then optimization of weld step length is carried out and position of magnetic field sensor relative to welding electrode is changed. Device provides automatic forming of weld of fine-grain structure by controlling thermal cycle in process of welding. EFFECT: enhanced quality and reliability of weld joint. 3 dwg
