FIELD: mining; applicable in mining coal seams. SUBSTANCE: method for driving mine workings in seams prone to coal and gas outbursts includes driving of working in rocks of immediate seam roof. Prospecting drill holes are sunk to a depth determined by the offered relation. Subject to measurement are convergence of roof and floor and floor rocks displacement, and rate of convergence. Minimum value of lead of working in rock with respect to coal seam face with pillar-and-board mining is taken equal to the distance from the face to district on which convergence rate has maximum value, and displacement of floor rocks is not less than that determined by the formula. After provision of the required lead, coal seam is extracted. EFFECT: provision of relief of coal seam from gas and prevention of sudden outbursts of coal and gas. 4 cl, 7 dwg
