FIELD: organic glass production. SUBSTANCE: formulation for producing high-quality oriented organic glass contains (in wt %): methyl metacrylate, 85-99.4; metacrylic acid, 0.1-15; isobutyric acid azodinitrile (radical initiator), 0.005-0.1; phenyl salicylate (stabilizer), 0.2. Formulation is subjected to bulk polymerization first at heat carrier temperature 65-70 C for 30-40 min, and then at heat carrier temperature 20-45 C until monomer conversion 80-85% is attained, whereupon afterpolymerization to 92- 96% is performed with heat carrier temperature lowered to 75-80 C. Final polymerization of residual monomer occurs when sheets are being oriented. Plant has unit 1 including vertical heat-conducting plates with channels for heat carrier passage and, mounted on them, shaping sheets 3 made of silicate glass or polished metal. Above unit 1, horizontal guides 17 and rolls 16 free to move along the guides are disposed. Rolls 16 are linked with cramps 15 embracing the plates.
