FIELD: heat- insulating materials. SUBSTANCE: raw blend contains (in wt %): liquid glass (as dry stuff), 1-20 based on mineral fibers, advantageously 5-15; finely divided blast-furnace slag, 1-50 based on liquid glass (as dry stuff), advantageously 10-20. Additionally, blend may contain modifying agent, dust-binding agent, hydrophobizing agent, and/or liquid glass hardener, wherein as dust-binding and hydrophobizing agent, polybutylsilane may be used. When preparing blend, liquid glass suspension is combined with blast-furnace slag and then modifier solution containing hydrophobizing agent, dust-binding agent, and/or hardener are added followed by shaping and hardening blend. Obtained material is characterized with density 60-300 kg/cu. m, stretch/twist strength 20-600 kN/sq.m, compression strength up to 270 kN/sq.m (5%) and up to 70 kN/sq.m (10%), moisture absorption 3.8-7 wt % after 24 h and 9.1 wt % after 7 days.
