FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method can be used to machine and test balls in bearing manufacturing industry. Proposed method of ball testing includes feed of ball into working measurement zone, setting of ball between two supports located on case with datum plane of base. (One support has groove in outer surface which is formed by crossing of two coaxial cones), rotation of supports about their axes with speeds and directions different in value, measurement of needed parameters of ball in different nonrepeating sections, removal of ball from working zone and sorting of balls in agreement with result of measurement. In this case first support has loading and unloading holes displaced relative each other through angle β in direction of rotation. Form, arrangement and mutual orientation of contact spots of ball and supports are also specified. Second support is fabricated similar to first one. First support is placed perpendicular to datum plane of base. Their rotation axes should be perpendicular to one another. Ball is given translational motion by self-sliding with feed through loading and with removal through unloading holes. Test of ball is accomplished during time of turn of first support through angle 360-(360°-β), and feed and removal of ball out of it - during time of turn through angle β..
