FIELD: gas purification. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to purification of furnace gases from sulfur-containing fuel or garbage burner heat stations. Furnace gas is treated with alkali metal bicarbonate in presence of oxygen at molar oxygen to carbon monoxide ratio at least 1 and sulfur dioxide to nitrogen monoxide ratio more than 0.2 and at gas temperature 300-700 C. Preferably, such SO2 amount is used which is theoretically required to form such alkali metal pyrosulfite (from corresponding bicarbonate) amount that is sufficient to full consumption of NO and NO2. Molar ratio MHCO3/NO is 0.5. Dry gas treatment with sodium bicarbonate is of preference. EFFECT: increased purification degree. 5 cl, 5 dwg
