FIELD: for conversion of heat into electricity and for reverse conversion, for example in refrigeration machines. SUBSTANCE: device has two cells; each cell has housing and solid electrolyte which divides housing into low- and high-pressure chambers; device is also provided with electrodes which are in contact with solid electrolyte. First cell is heated and second cell is cooled. Chamber of identical pressures of first cell are connected with such chambers of second cell; electrodes mounted in low-pressure chambers are electrically interconnected; electrodes mounted in high-pressure chambers are electrically separated. According to second version of invention, connection of electrodes is reversed. EFFECT: enhanced reliability. 4 cl, 3 dwg
