FIELD: analyses of magnetic characteristics of materials, including paleomagnetic analyses; geology and geophysics. SUBSTANCE: method involves exposure of motionless sample to magnetic field continuously varying its direction in space obeying law of chance; in this case, field vector hodograph lies on sphere with radius gradually reducing with time, sample being placed in its center. For implementing mentioned method, two additional demagnetizing coils are proposed to be introduced in device having relatively orthogonal axes and common center and AC generator with gradually falling amplitude to be replaced by random-current generator with uniform probability density provided with three outputs, each connected to coil; instant values of currents at outputs are interrelated by equation $$$, where $$$ is initial amplitude of demagnetizing current slowly reducing to zero. EFFECT: simplified procedure and improved accuracy. 2 cl, 1 dwg
