FIELD: chemistry, petrochemistry, more specifically process for preparing 2-ethylhexanol from acetaldehyde. SUBSTANCE: invention describes process for recovery of ethylhexanol from by-product formed in the production of ethylhexanol by rectification thereof with separating agent in two columns operating at top pressures of 50-300 mm Hg and 30-200 mm Hg, respectively. The separating agent is mixture of n-butanol and water in 1.7:1 ratio. The claimed process makes it possible to recover the desired product from by-product with yield of not higher than 95% of the potential content in the initial mixture. EFFECT: more efficient recovery process. 2 tbl
