FIELD: synthetic rubber industry. SUBSTANCE: claimed invention makes it possible to increase degree of conversion of alkali metal hydroxide into dichlorocyclopropane groups. Modified 1,4-polybutadiene containing dichlorocyclopropane groups is obtained by reacting 1,4- polybutadiene in hydrocarbon solvent with chloroform and aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxide in the presence of interphase transfer catalyst. Reaction is carried out by fractional addition of aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution to hydrocarbon solution at 1,4- polybutadiene to chloroform to alkali metal hydroxide to interphase transfer catalyst molar ratio of 1:(1- 20):(0.3-3): (0.002-0.02), respectively. The interphase transfer catalyst includes quarternary ammonium salts selected from the group consisting of triethylbenzyl ammonium chloride, tetraethyl ammonium chloride, tetrabutyl ammonium chloride, tetrobutyl ammonium bromide or trialkylamine selected from the group consisting of trimethyl amine, triethyl amine, tributyl amine as preprepared complex with chloroform.
