FIELD: optical materials. SUBSTANCE: invention allows manufacturing plates with predetermined shape and size and, at the same time, enables considerable decrease in waste from principal material, provides possibility of manufacturing plates from crystal stock having cracks and cuts, and also considerably increases efficiency in operation of equipment with reduced power and effort consumption owing to that, in a method including heating crystalline stock to a temperature within the range from half melting point to melting point of starting material, thermomechanical deformation is effected with the aid of shaped surface to double thickness of manufactured plate, whereupon stock is deformed once again using plane-parallel surface to predetermined thickness.
