FIELD: chemical technology, more specifically preparation of 2- phenylbenzimidazole (2-PHBI). SUBSTANCE: claimed process comprises fusing o-phenylene diamine with excess of benzoic acid at temperature of 90-110 C when initial components are mutually soluble, and subsequently continuously raising the temperature that allows the reaction mixture to be obtained in molted state. The process is completed at temperature not lower then 290 C and no water vapors evolve from the reaction mixture. EFFECT: more efficient preparation process. 3 cl
