FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: ultrasonic clinometer has partially filled with liquid at high specific gravity. Housing is divided by means of partition into two equal reservoirs communicated in lower portion of housing. Device is provided with measuring tubes hydraulically connected with each reservoir. Remaining portion of reservoirs is filled with liquid at low specific gravity; half of volume of measuring tubes is also filled with this liquid. Device is also provided with bypass valve, piezo radiators located in base of each measuring tube, measuring unit whose interior is made in the form of sphere. Housing is half-filled with liquid having high specific gravity. Diameter of measuring tubes is selected from relationship , where σ is surface tension coefficient in measuring tubes; p is density of liquid in measuring tubes; g is free fall acceleration; q is wetting angle between liquid contained in measuring tubes and material of their walls. Diameter of measuring tubes in near zone Xnear of piezo radiators is determined from relationship Xnear = 2, F/C, where F and C are frequency and velocity of ultrasonic wave, respectively; it is equal to diameter of piezo radiator.
