FIELD: film- forming agent for manufacture of varnishes, paints and enamels for various purposes. SUBSTANCE: product of polycondensation of polyhydric alcohol esterified with aliphatic or aromatic monobasic acid with dibasic acid or anhydride thereof and divalent metal oxide. The product has melting point of 145-160 C and molecular weight of 1120-10000 is soluble in aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, acetone, butyl acetate and butanol. Polyhydric alcohol is first esterified with aliphatic or aromatic monobasic acid at 75-85 C followed by azeotropic distillation of water at 160-180 C. The resulting product is polycondensed with dibasic acid or anhydride thereof at 160-180 C for 1 year and is then reacted with divalent oxide at 140-155 C for 4 hours, and the resulting water is distilled by azeotropic method.
