FIELD: agricultural engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves accumulating potential energy; consuming accumulated energy by changing position of frame of power unit; determining draft force during advancement of mobile unit and comparing it with potential energy determined by height of frame; changing speed of advancement of mobile unit in accordance with comparison results. Apparatus has frame and propellers connected with frame by pivotal parallelograms. One link of pivotal parallelogram is formed as tie-rod and other is formed as reducer, whose shaft is pivotally secured on frame. Drive sprocket of caterpillar propeller is pivotally connected with one gear of reducer shaft drive. Drive sprocket of one caterpillar propeller has cursor and tie-rod rotation angle sensor. Drive sprocket of other propeller has cursor and reducer rotation angle sensor. Each propeller has supporting roller and tightening wheel.
