FIELD: production of inorganic substances. SUBSTANCE: method includes reductive baking of barium sulfate, conversion of formed barium sulfide into sodium sulfide, filtration of suspensions to yield sodium sulfide solution and barium sulfate precipitate, the latter being returned into reductive baking stage. Conversion process is completely or in part combined with wet milling and leaching of barium sulfide melt in mathematical expectation. Recycled process solutions containing 10-18 % (preferably 16%) sodium sulfide and 3.5-13.5% preliminarily dissolved sodium sulfate needed for conversion process. In wet milling and leaching stage, conversion is conducted to summary BaS + Na2S salt concentration in liquid phase of suspension in the range of 20 to 28% on conversion to sodium sulfide, barium sulfide content not exceeding 15%. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 2 cl, 11 ex
