FIELD: thermal engineering. SUBSTANCE: salinometers 10 are used to meter salt content of condensate sampled from condenser 1; prior to sampling, condensate is conveyed in each span of condenser from tube banks 2 to respective tube plate 5 of this span; then condensate sample is taken from zones at lower parts of tube plates 5, and salt content of each sample is measured. Use is made of condenser with tube banks 2 and extreme and intermediate tube plates, as well as salinometer 10 to measure salt content of condensate samples taken from condenser 1. Device also has hot wells or traps, for example, in the form of troughs in bottom parts of tube plates, to detect leakage during earlier phases of fault in tube banks 2 when salt content of main condensate is lower than specified value; hot wells are arranged along tube plates under tube banks 2, tube axes being inclined to horizontal plane; each hot well or trap 6 is isolated from other ones and communicates with salinometer 10 through drain piping 8 and switch 9; it may be sectionalized through tube plate length by means of partition 18 and each section 17 communicates through its drain piping with salinometer 10 through switch 9.
